Arrived this summer on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, Colin Dagba occupies the position of right side. From the top of his young age (23 years old), the Franco-Beninese has already forged a little experience in Ligue 1 and on the European scene.
It’s a good move for Racing Club de Strasbourg. In search of a right side that will not hinder Karol Fila’s progress, the club from the Alsatian capital has secured the services of Colin Dagba in the form of a loan without an option to buy. Born in Béthune in the north of France, the young defender went through the training centers of Lens and Boulogne before finishing his junior classes at Paris Saint-Germain. He made his professional debut with the capital club on the occasion of the 2018 Champions Trophy where the Parisians won by a wide margin of 4-0. He will make his Ligue 1 debut a few days later, on August 12, 2018.
An interesting first season
During his first professional season (2018/2019), Colin Dagba had to come up against fierce competition at his post. Indeed, the young Franco-Beninese must share the right side with players like Dani Alves, Thomas Meunier or the young Thilo Kehrer. Despite this, the native of Béthune played a total of 17 matches in the league and 3 in the Coupe de France, for 2 assists in all competitions. It was also during this season that he played his first minutes in the Champions League, returning in the 81st minute against Manchester United in the round of 16 first leg (0-2 victory over Paris).
A shortened 2019-2020 season
Promised to a bright future, Colin Dagba continues to progress by continuing to be in the rotation of the Parisian workforce. Unfortunately for the right side, his season was cut short following a serious knee injury during a Coupe de France match against Pau FC (2-0 victory for the Parisians). He will no longer find the grounds during this exercise since the Covid-19 will put a premature end to all sports competitions.
First professional goal.
It is on new bases that Colin Dagba leaves for the 2020-2021 season. Much more present in the Parisian 11, the right side is having a full season in Ligue 1 by playing 25 games. He scored his first professional goal during a match against Montpellier where Kylian Mbappé’s teammates won 1-3. On the European scene, he took part in 5 Champions League matches, enough to forge his experience a little more.
During last season, Colin Dagba only made 3 small appearances in Ligue 1. A significant lack of playing time which deprived the young defender of his progress. This loan to Racing Club de Strasbourg is therefore an excellent opportunity for Dagba who can revive himself to earn his place in Paris in the years to come (note: the player has extended until 2025 with PSG). His solid experience in Ligue 1 and his European adventures will also be an excellent lever for Racing, which will be able to rely on a young player full of potential, and who has already tasted very high level football.
