Washington Commanders defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio has apologized for calling the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots a mere feud.
The former Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders head coach admitted his embarrassment in a statement Wednesday.
“I made comments regarding the attack that took place at the United States Capitol and the reference to a dispute [en anglais, dust-up] was irresponsible and negligent. I’m sorry, he said on Twitter. I continue to condemn the violence in our communities across the country. I say this by also expressing my support as an American citizen for peaceful protest. I have fully supported all non-violent protests across the country.”
“I love, respect and support all of my colleagues, players and staff I work with. I respect their opinions and views,” he added.
Del Rio was hired by Washington at the start of 2020. The 59-year-old has had a long career in the NFL: he was a player from 1985 to 1996 before starting his career on the sidelines.
