Throughout the month of May and June, Touchdown News reveals the typical NFL team voted by the editorial staff. The idea is simple: select the best players at the moment T, to start the 2022 season. It is not a question of building for in 3 years (or 10), but of winning immediately.

Too often in the shadow of other more “telegenic” defensive positions, linebackers are the soul of defenses.

If from the top of his 32 years, Lavonte David is resisting, it is indeed the new generation of linebacker who settles in our typical team, led in particular by a spectacular rookie.

1 – Micah Parsons – Dallas Cowboys – 23 years old

2021 stats: 16 matches, 84 tackles, 13 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 3 deflected passes

With 13 sacks for his rookie season, Micah Parsons has fully deserved his title of defensive rookie of the year. He even made the All Pro First Team and garnered 5 votes in the Defensive Player of the Season vote. It must be said that from the first day of his NFL career, the former Penn State player completely transformed the defense of Dallas.

Omnipresent on the second curtain of the Cowboys, Parsons showed his qualities in all compartments of the game. Particularly formidable to chase the quarterback, he was also effective against the run. A true defensive playmaker, versatile, his young age suggests that his room for improvement is still significant. What to settle permanently as the reference to his position for the decade to come.

2 – Fred Warner – San Francisco 49ers – 25 years old

2021 stats: 16 matches, 137 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 covered fumble, 6 deflected passes

Defensive captain of the 49ers, Fred Warner has established himself for several seasons as the new benchmark for the position of interior linebacker. All Pro in 2020, extended at great expense last summer, he distinguished himself again in 2021 with a hyper complete exercise ended in the conference final.

A real tackle machine, Warner is also extremely effective in pass coverage. Its tracking ability, even at depth, is exceptional. Experienced despite his 25 years, Warner has a bright future ahead of him.

3 – Lavonte David – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 32

2021 stats: 12 matches, 97 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles

Veteran of our selection, Lavonte David seems to be like great wines, it improves with the passing years. Pillar of the Buccaneers, he was one of the great men of the title in 2020. More discreet last season due to an injury that caused him to miss a few matches, he nevertheless responded to each outing.

Intelligent, reliable, complete, he knows how to do everything. Already honored in our Top 50 last year, it is logical that David joins our typical team to bring his experience to this young gladiator body.

4 – Devin White – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 24

2021 stats: 17 matches, 128 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 3 deflected passes

Second member of the best linebacker duo in the league, Devin White also invites himself to our selection. More “spectacular” than his team-mate in particular through his blitzer qualities, he is however less complete. Very efficient against the race, it remains perfectible in the air cover.

But at just 24, White has plenty of room for improvement. Leader natural, he has already established himself in just 3 years as a sure bet for his position.
