Ford Explorer: A Flavor of America – Companies

The Explorer comes to us directly from the Ford USA lineup. Its size testifies to this, with more than 5 meters long, 2 wide and 1.80 high.

Despite its measurements, this SUV is not a carbon sink because it is only sold here as a hybrid plugin, with an extended electric mode that theoretically allows you to complete 42 kilometers without emitting local emissions (count 30 kilometers instead in practice) and, in this case, a power of 100 hp. Then, the 3.0 V6 biturbo wakes up to music and literally boosts the engine, which then delivers 457 hp of cumulative power! It is also whispered that the intervention services of the federal police would be interested in the model. Because the other strong point of the Explorer is its price / equipment / performance / habitability ratio. Admittedly, its 87,000 euros are a lot in absolute terms, but the competition (Audi Q7, BMW X7, Mercedes GLS) is more expensive and less well equipped. But it is true that it is also more opulent. The basic plastics of this Ford are not very refined… The equipment, on the other hand, is all-inclusive (panoramic roof, front seats with massage function, sliding and reclining rear seat, etc.) and the gigantic roominess, including for seven people since two adults can sit in the third row. The Explorer is therefore an original proposal in the segment of large family SUVs and its “USA” side will appeal to fans of the genre. Especially since the handling is less pachydermic than it seems. On the other hand, we expected a softer comfort from an American model. But given the power, we understand that this SUV could not be placed on a “chewing-gum” type damping. On the other hand, the independents will digest the fact that this hybrid plugin does not offer any tax advantage when its CO2 emissions exceed the fateful threshold of 50 g/km. This exotic machine is therefore likely to remain very marginal on our market.
