While, in France, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced this Thursday the end of the vaccine pass in mid-March, the Professional American Football League (NFL) decided to suspend its Covid-19 protocol. This includes in particular mandatory tests, the wearing of masks and the search for contact cases, according to a memo sent to the teams and obtained by several media.

All individuals should continue to be monitored daily for symptoms before entering club facilities

“Based on encouraging current trends, evolving Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, changes in state law, and advice from our respective experts, the NFL and the players (NFLPA) have agreed to suspend all aspects of the Covid-19 protocols, effective immediately.”says the memo.

Among the scrapped measures are mandatory testing for players and staff, regardless of their vaccination status. Ditto for wearing a mask, subject to local regulations.

“We will continue to prioritize the health and safety of players, coaches and staff, as we have done throughout the pandemic. If there is a need to reimpose certain aspects of the protocols or take further action, we will work closely with clubs, the NFLPA and our respective experts, as well as local, state and federal public health officials in this regard.”is added.

The NFL, which is the first professional sports league to suspend its Covid protocols, clarified that it will continue to comply with local and state regulations intended to slow the spread of the coronavirus. “All individuals should continue to be monitored daily for symptoms before entering club facilities”however, urged the League, recalling that anyone who tested positive must isolate themselves for the next five days.
