The NBA market is humming in August and for good reason, these gentlemen Kevin Durant, Kyrie Krving or Russell Westbrook have decided to freeze the platform. It would seem that the 30 General Managers of the Great League are more waiting for the first domino to fall, but in parallel with this market for superstars, a few more discreet free agents are trying to continue their adventure on the American slats. This is the case of the Argentinian leader Facundo Campazzo, free agent since the end of his contract in Denver, and who would see himself leaving for a dance. We don’t want to play low-level brokers, huh, but at two million a season you have to go running, right?
Arrived late in the NBA, at 29, Facundo Campazzo did not drag to prove himself. Alongside another genius international, Nikola Jokic, Facu very quickly showed why he was a reference on the Old Continent, he who was one of the leaders of Real Madrid before crossing the ocean. The skills of the brilliant Argentinian leader? Playmaking 50% fundamentals 50% playground, defense, hustle and vice shots, the kind of skills perfect for playing the doubles or even the interlinings in a winning team. What he did very well during his rookie year with the Nuggets by the way (6.1 points, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals, 19 starts), but what he had more difficulty in do in season 2, despite the absence of Jamal Murray and therefore 40 minutes which were freed up on the floor.
report or not the Nuggets did not deign to offer a new lease to their replacement, preferring for the moment to go get Ish Smith in Washington to play the service firefighters in the relay of a Jamal Murray who will suddenly make his return at the start of the school year. Which therefore gives us a Facu free of any contract and therefore actively looking for work for next season. And according to the weasel from the pampas, interviewed by the Argentinian media La Nacion (it looks like a hit by Shakira), a new challenge in the NBA would not be too much:
I want to stay in the NBA. I think I proved myself when they (the Nuggets, editor’s note) trusted me and included me in the rotation. I was still a starter in the Playoffs during the first season, and on many regular occasions as well. Please note, I’m not saying no to Real Madrid, I’m just saying that for now I’m focusing on the NBA. It’s my first option, that’s what I mean. I consider myself an NBA player and my ambition is to stay at this level. Anything can happen, anytime, and Real allowed me to become the player I am today, but my ambition right now is to stay in the United States.
The return of JM, the emergence of Bones Hyland, the arrival of Ish Smith and that of Peyton Watson via the Draft put Facundo Campazzo on the floor but Colorado is not the center of the world and a package of NBA franchises could therefore take the plunge by offering the veteran a small place on their bench. For example, we saw the Kings offer work to… Matthew Dellavedova, probably they did not have the list of free players in front of them, but the profile of Facu has in any case good press in the NBA and now remains to take this damn phone as soon as possible to bring the conductor of the Argentine selection. Seen like that the call is very Isaiah Thomas, but if the blinders of some can fall we will be satisfied.
