LONDON, 7th August, 2022 (WAM) — Executive Director of Marketing and Communications for the UAE Government Media Office, Khaled AlShehhi, has won the World Media Award (WMA) for Leadership and Innovation in of content for 2022, announced the World Media Group (WMG).

“This honor is given to the individual recognized by their peers for their talent in creating exemplary content-driven campaigns that demonstrate bravery, creativity and innovation for the brand.” AlShehhi will receive his special award at this year’s WMA celebration in September,” WMG said in a press release.

AlShehhi will receive his award at an exclusive live ceremony at the Ham Yard Hotel in London on Thursday 8th September 2022 where the winners of the final categories will also be announced. The winner of this year’s prestigious Grand Prix will also be announced that evening, joining previous Grand Prix winners London & Partners, Malaria No More UK, Shell, Sonos and Tata Motors as “best of the best “.

The global group praised the way the UAE government’s media office approaches communications: “AlShehhi has spearheaded many award-winning creative campaigns, including transforming the Burj Khalifa into the world’s largest donation box, which reached 4.6 billion people and collected more than 1.2 million meals for those most affected by Covid. However, the effectiveness of campaigns is only part of the story, AlShehhi has transformed the way a government entity approaches communications by making creative excellence the very essence of its function. It is clear that the UAE Media Office behaves like a brand, not an institution.”

WMG cited AlShehhi’s groundbreaking initiatives to support the Middle East’s first mission to Mars, including ‘Double Moon’, a never-before-seen projection stunt in the region, and a limited-edition passport stamp made of Martian ink for visitors arriving in the UAE, as a showcase of “this unique creative approach.”

“Similarly, ‘A winter through my eyes’, a short video showing the beauty of the UAE from the perspective of a blind person, pushes the boundaries of traditional tourism content,” the statement added.

The two co-chairmen, HSBC’s head of brand strategy Hamish Goulding and managing partner at McCann Worldwide, Ritu Lakhanpal as well as World Media Group chief executive Belinda Barker, agreed that Mr AlShehhi had upset the rules of government communication by placing creativity at the heart of its leadership in order to obtain a level of impact and efficiency rarely achieved by public institutions.

“The caliber of the 2022 Content Leadership and Innovation Award nominees, who are nominated by members of the World Media Group, was exceptional this year. Khaled AlShehhi impressed our judges with the breadth and depth of the campaigns he has carried out, as well as his creativity, his audacity and his ability to push the boundaries of communication and marketing in an often arid sector.

“The World Media Awards showcase the best in content marketing, so I’m thrilled to receive the Content Leadership and Innovation Award,” said AlShehhi.

“My goal,” he continued, “has been to transform the way the UAE government communicates by producing original, innovative and creative content that positively impacts people’s lives locally, regionally and So it’s a real honor for me – and of course for my team – to have our work recognized by our peers.”
