In the age of Web3, start-ups are innovating to enable companies to take advantage of this new phase of the Internet. This is the case of Request Finance, which has just raised $5.5 million from Balderton, XAnge and Animoca Brands, and which aims to generalize payments in cryptocurrencies for businesses. This startup launched in December 2019 by two French people, Christophe Lassuyt and Yoann Marion, wants to reinvent the invoicing and payment of corporate invoices by allowing them to carry out these transactions in cryptocurrencies.
“The main service is that of bill payment and invoicing”, explains Christophe Lassuyt, CEO of Request Finance. “A freelancer or a company can send an invoice that will allow them to be paid in cryptocurrencies. We also allow businesses to pay invoices, saving them bank fees and time. One can also pay salaries to people in multiple countries in just a few seconds. »
Concretely, the company deploys a suite of financial tools that allows professionals to manage their payments (invoicing, expense reports, salaries and payments) from a dashboard. The platform also allows integrations with accounting software like Quickbooks and Xero.
“Our service is mainly aimed at Web3 companies”
If Request Finance can address any company, it mainly appeals to Web3 companies, which work almost or entirely remotely, just like DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations). “Our service is mainly aimed at Web3 companies, because they are the ones who have the most difficulty on the subject” confirms Christophe Lassuyt. “But we realized that Web2 companies needed our tool, especially when they were transitioning to Web3. »
However, one point remains sensitive; that of wages. Indeed, many countries, including France, do not allow companies to pay their employees in cryptocurrencies to protect them from market fluctuations. The CEO of Request Finance, however, assures that it is safe to be remunerated in this way when it comes to stable currencies.
“Paying bills in digital currencies is rarely a problem. With regard to salaries, however, some countries prohibit the payment of salaries in cryptocurrencies. With us, companies that pay their employees in cryptocurrencies use stable currencies. »
