Active on the transfer market since the end of the season, the Hawks are also changing on the bench with a change in the staff organization chart following the departure of Chris Jent from the Lakers. To replace him, Joe Prunty was named “first assistant” to Nate McMillan.
Joe Prunty is one of the oldest assistants in the league, he who began his career in this area in 1996 on the side of San Antonio, where he remained until 2005. He then chained Dallas (2005-2008) , Portland (2008-2010), Cleveland (2010-2013), and Brooklyn before spending four years in Milwaukee (2014-2018) where he took over from Jason Kidd during the second half of the 2017-2018 season as as head coach.
He then had a short experience in Phoenix alongside Igor Kokoskov (2018-2019) before taking charge of Team USA during the February 2021 international window, then returning to a classic assistant role in Atlanta from the last summer.
Mike Longabardi has also been named to round out the Hawks coaching staff. Assistant to the defensive profile, he arrives for his part from Sacramento where he had been hired to support Luke Walton.
Before that, Mike Longabardi had passed through Houston (2003-2007), Boston (2007-2012), Phoenix (2013-2015), Cleveland (2016-2019) then Washington (2019-2021).
