Like Stephen Curry, Bobby Portis has chosen to use his aura to participate in the fight for the emancipation of women in society.
The Warriors playmaker got involved in the matter after having two daughters. For the interior of the Bucks, it is largely due to his mother, who raised him alone with his little brothers, that he notably came up with the idea of creating a foundation to support single women.
“I grew up with a single mother. She made me proud and happy. My mother worked hard to take care of me and my little brothers. Being able to help others has always been my calling, something I’ve always wanted to do in life. It’s one of those things that made sense.”did he declare. “So I salute my mother. Obviously, she’s a single mom, and it’s been hard on her. Many thanks to my mother for showing me how to work hard and how to share my benefits with others”.
Her early years in Arkansas weren’t easy, but her mother was always there, even in the worst of times.
“I lived in 17 or 18 different houses during my childhood. It was all the motivation I needed to be honest. Just crazy situations we were in. Living in houses sometimes with 12, 13 other people. Sometimes if you didn’t come home early enough to get the bed, you slept on the floor.”
To buckle the buckle
Bobby Portis was able to permanently save his mother and his family by signing a four-year, $48.5 million extension with the Bucks this summer. Again, when he looks back and reviews the steps that took him to the NBA, it is his mother that Bobby Portis thinks of first.
“One thing my mum really did for me was that when it was time for me to play sports, she always made sure I was there”he continued. “When it was time for me to go play football or basketball, my mum always took the time to make sure I went to practice or went to my games. She was not necessarily always present at all my matches because she had to work to take care of us, but she made sure that I could go. And once I got older, started to improve a bit, I knew I could probably change my mom’s life and help change my little brothers’ lives through basketball.”
With the “Bobby Portis Foundation”, the loop is now complete, and it is now her turn to come to the aid of single mothers in difficulty.
